Mildred Faulkner Truman, the daughter of George W. and Jennie Houk Faulkner was born in the Village of Owego, New York in 1897. She was married to James S. Truman, an attorney who practiced in Owego.
As a lifelong resident of the Village of Owego, Mildred Faulkner Truman served as a director of the Owego National Bank as well as the Tioga County Historical Society after her husband’s death. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Union Church of Owego.
Mildred Faulkner Truman was an able and successful investor. As a result, she accumulated a substantial estate. Upon her death in 1983, her will provided that the residuary of her estate be used to establish a Foundation to fund grants to qualified tax-exempt organizations whose worthwhile projects benefit the residents of Owego, the Owego area and Tioga County.
